Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are long and complete. David Allen MW (Master of Wine), Wine Director at Hi there, today were celebrating the fact that the 2nd of September is National Chianti day in the US. James Suckling scored this 95 points saying "Extremely perfumed and vivid, with fresh mushrooms, cherry stones and blackberries. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Though fluid and seemingly approachable now, this is well-structured and shows the balance to age. Wine Spectator scored this 96 points saying "A supple, elegant red highlighted by bright cherry, black currant, violet, tobacco, iron and oak spice aromas and flavors. The palate is more compact and streamlined. This less extractive approach shapes a polished and elegant wine with plenty of bright berry fruit, cherry, dried mint, blue flower, blood orange and rusty earth.
The 2019 vintage was born with a good amount of power and tannic structure, and maceration times were slightly reduced as a result. Here too, the small blending element of Cabernet Franc has been slowly increasing in recent years. This is an elegant and extremely polished wine made with mostly Sangiovese and smaller parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The Wine Advocate scored this 2019 96 points saying "The Marchesi Antinori 2019 Tignanello was born in a classic growing season that saw some cooling summer rains and relatively stress-free conditions. Tignanello is the iconic wine of the estate, and has been defined by the international press as "among the most influential wines in the viticultural history of Italy". In these 320 acres of vineyards, the Antinori family, more than anywhere else, has expressed its principles and working philosophy: reconcile tradition and modernity with wines that are strictly and authentically tied to their territories of origin. It’s produced with a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet. The Tignanello Estate is located between the Greve and Pesa river valleys in the heart of the Chianti Classico appellation. Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional varieties (specifically Cabernet) and one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region that didn’t use white grapes. Of course Antinori is the world famous producer of Tuscan wines, their history going back literally centuries and their vineyard holding unrivaled. Tignanello is the first and most consistent of the great Super Tuscans.
